Nyepi is the balinesic holiday "Day of Silence". It's a day of quiet, fasting and meditation.
Nyepi is a day of self-reflection and everything, that could destroy the process of self-reflection, is prohibited on this day. For example prohibited are bright light, work, amusement, travelling and for some people talking and eating.
The streets of Bali are empty on this day and there are no sounds of TVs or radios. There is only little signs of human existance on the streets because people stay at home. |
